The reading of the opening proclamation is one of the main and historical attractions of Lalín Cocido Fair because, ever since the famous Galician writer Álvaro Cunqueiro delivered the first proclamation in 1969, this honour has always been bestowed on a prominent person, whether from the literature, culture, politics, sciences, sports, journalism or humour landscape. The chosen person is in charge of highlighting in his or her own unique way the cultural, gastronomic, and sociological richness of our region.
The list of distinguished town criers of the Cocido Fair includes well-known people such as the aforementioned Álvaro Cunqueiro, Luis del Olmo, Baltasar Garzón, Manuel Fraga, Fernando Ónega, María Teresa Campos, Cruz y Raya, Alberto Ruíz-Gallardón, Karlos Arguiñano, Santiago Rey Fernández-Latorre, Carlos Alsina, María Castro, Pedro Piqueras, Eduardo Punset, Xabier Fortes, Sonsoles Ónega, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and José Ribagorda among others.
The town crier for the 56st edition will be the poet, Yolanda Castaño.
