It delves into the institutional collaboration between Oviedo and Lalín around tradition, gastronomy and tourism.
This weekend, Oviedo hosted the presentation of the 58th Lalín Cocido Fair, in an event that marked the first outing outside Galicia for this edition and served to reinforce the national profile of one of the country's most emblematic gastronomic events. The initiative allowed for the strengthening of institutional and cultural ties between Asturias and Galicia, with cocido serving as an element of unity and shared identity.
The mayor of Lalín, José Crespo, expressly thanked the Oviedo City Council for its special treatment and hospitality, highlighting the institutional and human quality of the meeting. He also highlighted the fact that the Royal Bagpipe Band of the City of Oviedo took part in the presentation, whose participation contributed to giving the event a marked symbolic character, reinforcing the cultural ties between the two territories.
During his speech, Crespo stressed that the Cocido Fair is ‘the first gastronomic festival in Spain’ to achieve recognition as a Festival of International Tourist Interest, and highlighted its role as an economic, tourist and social driver for Lalín. The councillor invited the citizens of Asturias to visit the capital of Deza and enjoy the king of Galician cuisine, reminding them that Lalín is ‘just over three hours away by car’.
The presentation was attended by the deputy mayor of Oviedo, Mario Arias, who highlighted the beauty of Lalín and the importance of continuing to strengthen relations between the two municipalities. The event also included a cooking demonstration by chef Álex Iglesias, who introduced the audience to different dishes related to cocido, providing a direct insight into the gastronomic tradition of Lalín.
With actions of this kind, Lalín reaffirms its commitment to promoting its gastronomic festival abroad, strengthening institutional and cultural alliances that contribute to positioning the Cocido Fair as a landmark event on the national and even international gastronomic calendar.
