The Alvariza International Beekeeping Fair celebrates its fifth edition this year, reaffirming its status as one of the major events held under the auspices of the Cocido Fair and as one of the highlights of the Fair's programme of activities.

The Alvariza International Beekeeping Fair celebrates its fifth edition this year, reaffirming its status as one of the major events held under the auspices of the Cocido Fair and one of the highlights of the Fair's programme of activities.

On Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February, Alvariza will once again turn Lalín into a meeting point for the beekeeping sector, with a programme that includes pioneering demonstrations of the detection of velutin wasp nests using radio frequency, as well as technical conferences focusing on bee health, genetic improvement of the African bee to reduce its aggressiveness, and the treatment of varroa mites using sublimators.

This fifth edition of the fair will feature around fifty exhibitors from different parts of Galicia and other parts of Spain, and will take place over two days with an extensive programme of tastings, technical reports and informative activities open to the general public.

Since its creation, Alvariza has shown continuous growth, based on the project promoted by beekeeper David Liñares and the strong support of the Lalín Town Council, with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia from the outset. The five editions held so far confirm that it is one of the most successful events in the complementary programme of the Cocido Fair.

Alvariza is characterised by the quality and variety of its products, as well as the diversity of the activities on offer, ranging from honey tastings and live cooking demonstrations to specialist talks, workshops and activities aimed at children. The fair thus brings together beekeeping, gastronomy and tradition.

There will also be guided tours of the traditional alvarizas (honeycombs) of Vilatuxe, Moa and Catasós, an initiative that will bring the public closer to the beekeeping heritage, landscape and culture of the region, highlighting an activity that is deeply linked to the rural environment.

With this fifth edition, Alvariza has established itself as the most important beekeeping fair in Galicia and one of the benchmarks in the sector at the national level, contributing to the promotion of the sector, the dissemination of knowledge and the economic and cultural revitalisation of Lalín and its surroundings.
