The works submitted will be articles, books, interviews, reports, cartoons, photographs, commentaries, etc. written in Galician, Spanish or any other language, published in the different media in the last two years. The works must deal with subjects related to Galician gastronomy in particular and gastronomy in general. The works shall be submitted, either by the author or by third parties or entities, in original copy, by means of a general application form duly completed and signed through the electronic office of the City Council of Lalín, accompanied by a letter addressed to the Mayor-President of the City Council of Lalín with the name, personal details, contact telephone number, responsible declaration and curriculum of the author.

The application must state ‘For the Álvaro Cunqueiro Gastronomic Journalism Award’, as well as the category (journalistic or academic). In the case of books or any other support that allows it, they can also be submitted physically through the General Registry of the City Council of Lalín (Plaza de Galicia, 1 36500 Lalín) by mail or in person. However, it is essential and a necessary condition that the presentation in physical/paper format is accompanied by the corresponding copy in digital format (USB, DVD, CD or similar) or, where appropriate, a download link that effectively allows the same.

In the case of physical presentation, six copies of the work must be submitted, as well as a letter addressed to the Mayor-President of the City Council of Lalín with the name, personal details, contact telephone number and curriculum of the author and, where appropriate, also of the person presenting the work.

A jury, appointed for this purpose, which will be made up of journalists from the Galician media and representatives of the collaborating institutions, will select the works it considers worthy of the awards, taking into account their journalistic quality, dissemination of Galician gastronomy, promotion of our culture, considering the reference to the Cocido de Lalín as an added value.

This jury will meet once all the selected works have been reviewed, to issue the decision that will be announced publicly in an event scheduled for this purpose prior to the celebration of the LVIIth Cocido Fair.

The City Council of Lalín may require the identification of the personality of the prize-winners who, except in cases of force majeure, must collect the prizes at the event organised for this purpose.

Before proceeding to payment, the prize-winner must present at the Lalín Town Council Registry a certificate certifying that he/she is up to date with his/her tax obligations with the Social Security, the State Agency for Tax Administration and the Galician Tax Agency. The City Council will check ex officio that the prize-winner is up to date with their tax obligations with the entity itself.

The City Council also reserves the right to summon the winners in any of the categories to form part of the jury in the next edition.

The ‘Álvaro Cunqueiro’ Award is named after the first town crier of the Cocido Fair and has been promoted by the Lalín Town Council since 1993, in collaboration with the Galician gastronomic associations, the Galician Tourism Agency and the Faculty of Communication Sciences of Santiago de Compostela, to recognise the work of journalists and writers as disseminators of Galician cuisine.
