The councillor for Fiestas and the area, José Cuñarro, visited the building these days with the parish priest, Antonio Fernández, on loan from the Amorín family, whom he thanked for the gesture.
The 25th edition of the Traditional Slaughter of the Pig to be held on Sunday, 16th February, in the parish of Catasós, already has a place where it will take place: the Casa de Amorín, in the village of Antuín (Catasós). This was announced by the councillor for Festivities and the area, José Cuñarro who, accompanied by the parish priest of Catasós, Antonio Fernández Fernández, visited the building and adjoining constructions where the Slaughter will take place. It is the Casa de Amorín, a house which originally dates back to the 18th century and which underwent its last major renovation in 1850. It is therefore a century-old house, with cobbled floor, oven, alpendre conditioned for daily work, curro, lar, corridor as there was formerly in the farmhouses, hórreo of three clearings and wide out, explains the mayor, while thanking the Amorín family for the transfer of the house for the realization of the event. Cuñarro indicates that ‘once the Slaughter has taken place, those attending will move to the festival field, which is about a hundred metres away, where there will be a tasting of typical pork products and musical performances to liven up the Slaughter’. ‘In front of the festival site, there will be a car parking area, which will be properly signposted,’ he said. The councillor points out that ‘the residents’ association, the fiestas committee and the parish priest are the three parties who are the visible heads of the organisation, but it should be pointed out that the whole parish is involved in the Matanza’. ‘This year it is the turn of the parish of Catasós, in the Alto de Valles area, which is also made up of Donramiro and Moneixas, and collaboration is also open to them, a help that would be well received by the people of Catasós’, he remarked. Lastly, the councillor added that ‘we would like to invite all the parish areas and the town centre to come to Catasós on 16th February to take part in one of the most important and traditional tasks of all the houses, because traditionally the Matanza (Slaughter) has ensured food for the whole year’.
