ARMANDO REQUEIXO WINS THE 32ND ÁLVARO CUNQUEIRO NATIONAL GASTRONOMIC JOURNALISM AWARD WITH THE ARTICLE “O CONTEMPLADOR DE ESTRELAS. ÁLVARO CUNQUEIRO, GASTRÓNOMO”

Antón López, Javier Rodríguez and Abraham Rodríguez win the award for best academic work for their multimedia report ‘Masa e Zaragallada’

Both awards will be presented at the Cocido Gala, which will be broadcast by TVG from the Lalín Arena on Friday 30 January.

Armando Requeixo won the 32nd Álvaro Cunqueiro National Gastronomic Journalism Award, recognised as Spain's most important journalism award and worth €4,000. The National Gastronomic Journalism Award is promoted by the Lalín City Council in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Galician gastronomic associations and the Galician Tourism Agency (Xunta de Galicia).

Armando Requeixo Cuba was unanimously chosen by the jury as the winner of this 32nd National Award for the best journalistic work submitted in all categories for his article ‘O CONTEMPLADOR DE ESTRELAS. ÁLVARO CUNQUEIRO, GASTRÓNOMO’ (The Star Gazer. Álvaro Cunqueiro, Gastronome), published in the ‘Faro de la Cultura’ supplement of Faro de Vigo.

This was agreed by the members of the jury during their deliberations at the Lalín Town Hall, who highlighted Requeixo's work for ‘its literary quality, which demonstrates a deep knowledge of Lalín and its cuisine through a journey through the work of Álvaro Cunqueiro as a gastronome’.

The jury was chaired by the mayor of Lalín, José Crespo, and made up of prominent journalists such as Martín Fernández Vizoso; Alberto Barciela Castro; Belén Xestal Ares; María José Imia Vázquez, representing Turismo de Galicia; Xosé Ramón Pousa Estévez, and the vice-dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the USC, Alba Silva Rodríguez. The councilor for Tourism of the City Council, Begoña Blanco, and Inmaculada Vilariño from the Communication Office of the City Council of Lalín also participated as secretary of the jury.

The prize in the academic work category, worth €1,000, went to the group of students from the Double Degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication at the USC, made up of Antón López Eiroa, Javier Rodríguez Gonzalez and Abraham Rodríguez Santamaría, for their multimedia report ‘Masa e Zaragallada’, for their great journalistic work in the graphic treatment and development of the report, in the words of the jury.

The awards will be presented on Friday 30 January at the Cocido Gala, which will be broadcast by TVG from the Lalín Arena.
